When it comes to bathing your baby, you’ll want to choose soft and organic baby bath towels and washcloths. The good news is that they’re affordable, accessible, and reduce your baby’s exposure to pesticides and preservatives used in manufacturing. Since bath towels and wash cloths are used so often, and directly touch your baby’s skin, it’s best to choose organic.
How Many Baby Towels Do You Need?
Baby towels are usually hooded, making it easier for you to keep your baby’s head warm after a bath. They’re sized for babies, and are usually softer – and that’s why I prefer buying hooded baby towels, rather than just using regular household towels for a baby.
I like having a few organic baby bath towels on hand, especially in those newborn days. You never really know how often you’ll get to do the laundry, and pee and poop accidents will happen (I promise). I recommend purchasing 3-4 towels and 6-12 washcloths, at minimum.
Organic Baby Bath Towels
We tried a few different organic baby bath towels before settling on these two brands. A couple of other brands were organic but became really rough to the touch after being washed a couple of times. Choose from either Burt’s Bees Baby or Brooklyn Bamboo organic baby bath towels.
Burt’s Bees makes wonderful, organic towels and washcloths. The towels measure 29″ x 29″ and are perfectly sized for newborn babies. Made from 100% Organic Cotton Knit Terry, Burt’s Bees Baby organic hooded baby towels are soft, thick, and plush. The washcloths are a little thin, but still work well and last a long time – we’ve had ours for over 2 years and still use them regularly.
You can purchase a set from Amazon that includes three washcloths, or just buy some of their organic hooded baby towels and washcloths directly from Burt’s Bees Baby. The towels come in a variety of soft colors, including white, light pink, heather gray, and baby blue.
Please note that your baby will likely outgrow these towels after 4-6 months, and then you’ll want to switch to a larger towel such as the Brooklyn Bamboo towel.
Brooklyn Bamboo’s towels are so thick, soft, and absorbent – we just love them! They’re plush and last through several washes. Made from organic bamboo, they’re a lot softer than cotton knit terry towels. These are about 34″ x 34″, making them larger in size than the Burt’s Bees Baby towels, and a perfect option for both newborns and infants. They’re such high quality that you could buy these from day one and they would probably last your baby for up to 3 years, if not longer. Brooklyn Bamboo also makes matching organic baby washcloths.
The only downside is that Brooklyn Bamboo’s Organic Hooded Towels are made in China. But since we knew we wanted a soft, organic hooded baby towel once my son outgrew the Burt’s Bees Baby towels, we felt like this was the best choice available.
Organic Baby Washcloths:
Made from organic cotton, Burt’s Bees Baby knit terry baby washcloths are wonderful! They’re not as thick or absorbent as the Brooklyn Bamboo washcloths, but they work extremely well for washing your baby in the bath or wiping bottoms. Sold in a set of three, you can buy as many as you need.
In addition to being sold on Amazon, you can purchase these washcloths directly from Burt’s Bees Baby. This is a great option if you plan to purchase several items from Burt’s Bees Baby, as they usually offer free ground shipping on orders over $100, as well as 10% off for new subscribers on their mailing list.
Made by Brooklyn Bamboo, the makers of the softest organic baby towels, these washcloths are super soft and absorbent. They actually get softer over time with washing. As with their towels, the washcloths feature a high thread count and are made with organic bamboo, but are unfortunately manufactured in China. I still love this brand!
Certified by Oeko-Tex, Bamboo Baby’s washcloths are organic, dye-free, and made from anti-bacterial bamboo. Soft and plush, these washcloths are top-notch. Again, my only gripe is that they are manufactured in China.
The Gentle Nursery’s Top Pick:
I recommend using the Burt’s Bees Baby organic baby towels for your newborn, and then switching to the Bamboo Baby Organic Towels once your baby has outgrown them. As for washcloths, you can’t go wrong with any of the choices on this page!
