Tired of Baby Sleep Advice That Feels Wrong in Your Gut?
Get gentle, sleep support designed for mamas who are tired of being told to sleep train.
If you’re here, you’re probably trying to make sense of your baby’s sleep. Maybe you’re exhausted. Maybe nothing you’ve tried has really worked. Maybe you’ve been told to just sleep train, but something deep in your gut is saying, there has to be another way.
You’re not alone. And you’re right… there is.
I tried sleep training because I didn’t know what else to do. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and desperate. But even after it “worked,” I knew deep down it wasn’t right. These gentle sleep coaching programs were created so that no other parent has to feel that same regret.

Why Sleep Training Isn’t the Answer (Even If It “Works”)
And why so many parents walk away from it feeling unsettled…
Sleep training is one of the first solutions that gets thrown at tired parents. It’s presented as the “answer”. The thing that will finally help your baby sleep through the night and give you your life back. I know, because I tried it. And it was awful.
When I was a new mom, I sleep-trained my first baby (yes, really!) because I didn’t know what else to do. I was desperate and overwhelmed. He was waking up every 30-45 minutes and I was drained. And even though sleep training was supposed to be the answer to all my problems, it wasn’t and it never felt right in my body. I stopped midway and changed to a holistic approach, but I’ve carried the weight of that regret ever since. And here I am, writing this eleven years later. That experience lit a fire in me to find a better way to support sleep without sleep training. And now, I am thrilled to help other moms do the same.
On the surface, sleep training often looks like it works. Your baby eventually stops crying. They fall asleep faster. Maybe they even start sleeping longer stretches. But what you don’t see is what’s happening under the surface: stress hormones rising, nervous systems dysregulated, and a baby who’s learned not that they’re safe, but that no one is coming anymore.
Sleep training is rooted in behaviorism. It treats sleep like a behavior problem to be corrected, rather than a developmental process to be supported. It relies on withholding responsiveness from the caregiver in order to shape a new behavior. But babies don’t just cry because they’re “manipulating” us or can’t “self-soothe.” They cry because they need us. They cry because their diaper is wet, they feel cold, they are scared, they heard a noise, or because they just need the comfort that only their loved ones can offer.
That’s biology… not bad habits. It’s biologically normal for babies to wake frequently, and it’s actually a safety mechanism that nature built in to help protect against SUID.
What’s often not talked about is how traumatic sleep training can feel for a parent. How gut-wrenching it is to hear your baby cry and be told not to go in. How confusing it is to silence your instincts because someone told you that you’re “doing too much.” For many parents, especially the mamas in my community, sleep training is not just ineffective, it’s deeply misaligned with who they are.
The other thing that gets left out? Is that sleep training no longer works when your baby gets sick, you travel away from home, or if they have a major developmental phase that disrupts sleep. So what are parents supposed to do, sleep train every couple of months?
I believe your baby’s need for closeness, comfort, and connection isn’t something to be fixed. It’s something to be honored and respected. And I believe you deserve support that respects your child and your intuition.
The Baby-Led Sleep Approach That Honors Your Instincts
A baby-led, attachment-centered approach.
Holistic sleep support honors both your baby’s biological sleep needs and their emotional and developmental needs. It’s about getting to the root of what’s happening with your child’s sleep and supporting them through it, gently and responsively.
It means:
- Respecting the science of infant sleep
- Supporting sleep through rhythms, routines, and the nervous system
- Holding space for connection, contact naps, breastfeeding, and bedsharing (if that’s what works for your family)
- Never forcing “independent sleep” before your baby is ready
Holistic sleep support is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: babies are wired to wake, and parents are wired to respond.
Instead of trying to force independence before your child is developmentally ready, holistic sleep support works with your baby’s biology, not against it. It recognizes that sleep isn’t just about wake windows and nap lengths, it’s about nervous system regulation, emotional safety, attachment, sensory needs, nutrition, and so much more.
For example, we look at the big picture:
- Is your baby overstimulated or under-stimulated during the day?
- Are they getting enough connection and co-regulation before bedtime?
- Are there developmental leaps or regressions at play?
- Are their sleep needs being met in a way that matches their unique temperament?
- Are you, the parent, feeling supported, resourced, and calm enough to make changes?
Holistic support also means you are part of the equation. We talk about your capacity, your beliefs, your nervous system, and what kind of support feels sustainable for you. This isn’t about just fixing baby sleep. It’s about creating rhythms and routines that support your whole family’s well-being.
And yes, holistic sleep support is practical, too. We’ll talk about routines, naps, night wakes, regressions, early mornings, and everything in between. We’ll hack the nap schedule and set your baby up for sleep support. But we’ll do it in a way that’s flexible, responsive, and aligned with how you want to parent.
There’s no rigid schedule, no one-size-fits-all method, and definitely no cry-it-out. Just real, gentle, responsive guidance, for real families, like yours (and ours).
It’s not one-size-fits-all. It’s not rigid. And it’s never about leaving your baby to cry.
What You’ll Never Be Asked to Do Here
At Gentle Nursery, I’ve been sharing non-toxic and natural parenting strategies with you since 2016. I’ve helped you avoid toxic products and unhealthy mainstream advice from pregnancy to the toddler stage. And now, with the introduction of Gentle Sleep Society and our sleep programs, we’re doing the same for baby sleep.
I’m on a mission to prevent families from sleep training.
I’m not going to ask you to ignore your baby’s cries.
We’re not going to hand you a rigid schedule and tell you to stick to it no matter what.
We’ll never tell you to stop nursing to sleep, stop contact napping if it works for you, or to “teach independence” before your baby is ready.
What we will do is help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface so you can make aligned, informed choices from a place of calm and confidence.
