Nobody Wants to Eat Liver: The Best Beef Organ Supplements for the Whole Family

If you grew up in a family that eats organ meats, you already know the look. The plate of liver on the table, the smell filling the whole kitchen, everyone around you eating it like it’s the most normal thing in the world… and you, deciding you would rather go hungry.

IN THIS ARTICLE
  • Why bother with beef organs at all?
  • What actually makes a good one
  • The best beef organ supplements for adults (capsules)
  • Not a pill person? Try these alternatives
  • What about the kids?
  • So what would I actually do?

That was me. I come from a culture where beef organs are just part of the food, and I found them impossible to stomach as a kid. If I’m being honest, I still do. I have zero interest in cooking liver, and even less in eating it. I wish I weren’t this way!

But here’s the thing I can’t unlearn: organ meats are some of the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. They are genuinely incredible for you, and they’re really good for growing kids too. So I did what a lot of us end up doing: I found a way to get the benefits without the plate of liver and onions. That’s what this whole guide is about.

As always: I’m not a medical professional and this isn’t medical advice. Always check with your healthcare provider before adding a supplement to your or your child’s routine, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, or thinking about giving something to a little one.

Why bother with beef organs at all?

Here’s the short version: organ meats are nature’s original multivitamin, and nothing we’ve invented in a lab really comes close.

Liver alone is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth, a standout source of vitamin B12, real vitamin A (retinol), copper, folate, choline, riboflavin, and heme iron (which is the kind of iron your body actually absorbs well). The other organs each bring their own thing. Heart is loaded with CoQ10 (great for energy and, well, your actual heart). Kidney adds selenium and B12. Spleen is one of the richest food sources of iron there is.

And because it’s all coming from real food, your body tends to recognize and use these nutrients better than the synthetic versions in a lot of standard multivitamins. That matters especially in the seasons of life when your needs spike, such as pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, or when you’re just running on very little sleep with a house full of kids.

Somewhere along the way most of us stopped eating organs entirely, and a lot of the deficiencies that are common now (such as low iron or low B12) are the exact things organs are best at fixing. You don’t have to fall in love with liver to close that gap. That’s the whole point of a good supplement: it’s a real shortcut, not a compromise.

What actually makes a good one

The organ supplement space has gotten crowded and a little wild, so here’s what I look for before anything else. Get these right and you’ve filtered out most of the junk.

✅ 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. “Grass-fed” alone can still mean the animal was finished on grain. You want both, because the sourcing is where the nutrient quality (and the safety) really comes from.

✅ Freeze-dried, not high-heat dried. Freeze-drying pulls the water out at low temperatures and protects the delicate vitamins and cofactors. Cheaper high-heat or spray-drying is harder on exactly the nutrients you’re paying for.

✅ Third-party tested, and willing to show it. This is the big one now. The best brands test every batch for heavy metals and publish or share the results. Be wary of “proprietary blends” that list the organs but hide the amounts, because you have no way to know what you’re actually getting.

No fillers or flow agents. A clean label should basically be organs and a capsule. That’s it.

The best beef organ supplements for adults (capsules)

Primal Queen

Primal Queen is a good place to start if you’re new to beef organs. It’s the first organ-based supplement I ever tried and it helped me feel more comfortable with the idea of taking beef organs. It’s a women-focused, all-in-one blend built from six beef organs — including uterus and ovary alongside liver, kidney, and heart — aimed at hormone support, energy, and iron. What I love is that it’s simple: there’s just one formula, one bottle, and two pills. So you don’t need to worry about picking and choosing.

It’s also the only organ brand I’ve seen that ran a full third-party, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, and every batch is independently tested. The recommended serving is two small capsules a day (one with each of two meals), which is about as easy as an organ routine gets.

Note: Because it’s a women’s formula (it contains reproductive organs), it’s really designed for you, not the kids. This isn’t one I would share with the family. Get 25% off when you shop through my affiliate link!

Heart & Soil

Heart & Soil was founded by Paul Saladino, MD, and it takes the opposite approach to Primal Queen. Instead of one blend, you get a whole menu of targeted formulas, including a foundational beef organ blend as well as specific ones for things like metabolism, hormones, or skin, and you build your own little stack based on your goals. Their testing standards are excellent, which is a big part of why people trust them. The trade-off is the pills: most formulas are a six-capsule serving, once a day, and if you stack two or three formulas, that adds up fast. I love my Heart & Soil supplements and find them worth the 12- to 18-pills-per-day routine. You get used to it, and there is no bad aftertaste.

Choosing between all the options can feel overwhelming, so I try to shop by goal. For example, you can choose between the Prenatal Stack if you are in the motherhood years, or something with a specific focus, like Skin, Hair, & Nails. Regardless, I highly recommend Her Package for women’s hormone support. And they have a terrific selection for men as well.

If you want to keep it simple, you could just start with their beef liver. But to be honest, they offer so much more than just beef liver!

Use code GENTLE10 for 10% off your entire order at Heart & Soil.

MK Supplements

MK Supplements makes a straightforward whole-organ blend in “nature-matched” ratios (roughly the proportions you’d actually find in an animal), packed in a glass bottle with a metal lid instead of plastic. It’s grass-fed and grass-finished, made in the US, third-party tested for heavy metals, and tends to come in a little cheaper per serving than the bigger names. If you want one simple blend without the premium price tag, it’s a really solid pick. Save 15% with code THEGENTLENURSERY.

Ancestral Supplements

Ancestral is the brand that really started this whole movement, and I think credit is due! Their organ blend covers a nice range, including liver, heart, kidney, pancreas, spleen. I’ll be honest with you though: in 2026 a California Prop 65 lead notice was filed against one of their products, and some of their blends mix beef with sheep, which can make the ratios less consistent batch to batch. That doesn’t mean their products don’t work; it just means I’d lean on the specific ones with published testing and treat that transparency as the deciding factor.

One thing to note is that they use plastic packaging; for some, this may not be an issue and for others this can be a dealbreaker. I prefer glass for organs just so I don’t have to worry about odors, personally.

Paleovalley Grass Fed Organ Complex

If you’re brand new to this and want to dip a toe in without a big commitment, Paleovalley is where I’d recommend you start. It’s a simpler liver-heart-kidney blend from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cattle, and the brand has some of the best-documented testing in the whole category: they publicly test for contaminants and heavy metals. They’re affordable, clean, and easy to trust, and this is a great, non-overwhelming blend — perfect if you’re new to beef organs.

Not a pill person? Try these alternatives

Capsules are the easy button, but they’re not the only way, especially for kids. Powders are actually my favorite trick for two situations: when you want protein and organs in one scoop, and when you’re trying to sneak nutrition into a kid (or a husband) who would never knowingly eat liver.

Pluck Organ-Based Seasoning

This one is genius. Pluck is a savory seasoning powder made from real organs (it had its moment on Shark Tank) that you sprinkle straight into food like ground beef, eggs, soups, pasta sauce, meatballs. Nobody at the table knows it’s there. It’s honestly the most kid-friendly way I’ve found to get organs into a family, because it hides inside meals you’re already making. Use code GENTLE15 for 15% off.

Noble Origins All-in-One Protein

If you want a proper protein powder that also delivers organs, this is a good option (though FYI: this does contain “natural flavors”, which I usually try to avoid). Each scoop is about 21g of grass-fed beef protein isolate plus a seven-organ blend, collagen, and colostrum, and it actually tastes good in a smoothie, which means it’s realistic for a busy morning and gentle enough that kids will drink it blended with banana and milk. Whey-free and no seed oils, which fits the non-toxic pantry.

Organised

If you’d rather it feel like real food than a supplement, Organised is the one I’d point you to. It blends grass-fed beef protein with a five-organ complex (liver, heart, kidney, lung, spleen), collagen, and colostrum, then sweetens the whole thing naturally with raw honey, Medjool dates, and maple syrup — so it genuinely tastes good stirred into yogurt, oats, or a smoothie (about 13g of protein per serving). That’s what makes it stick: plenty of moms use it as an everyday scoop in their kids’ smoothies, and every batch is third-party tested for heavy metals, mold, and pesticides with the results published, which is exactly the transparency I want. Two honest heads-ups — it contains colostrum, which is a dairy product (a little lactose per serving), so skip it if you’re strictly dairy-free, and it sits at the premium end on price.

Equip Prime Protein

One of the cleanest, simplest beef protein powders out there. Fair warning so you’re not surprised: the standard Prime Protein is mostly beef protein isolate; a fantastic clean protein, but light on actual organs. Reach for it when protein is the main goal and you’re getting your organs elsewhere.

Bulk desiccated liver powder

The cheapest route of all. A plain freeze-dried liver powder (Perfect Supplements and Nutricost both make solid, tested options) can be stirred into a smoothie, mixed into meatballs, or spooned into sauces. A little goes a long way, and it stretches your dollar further than anything in a capsule. Use code GENTLENURSERY at Perfect Supplements.

What about the kids?

This is the part I want to be really careful and honest about, because it’s the reason a lot of us look into organs in the first place. Yes — organ meats are genuinely wonderful for growing kids. The iron, B12, and choline are exactly the nutrients little bodies and developing brains are hungry for.

But please talk to your pediatrician before you give your child any of this, especially babies and toddlers. Liver is extremely high in preformed vitamin A (retinol), which is fat-soluble and can build up in the body if you overdo it. That’s the whole reason organs are a “little and consistent” food, not a “more is better” one, and small bodies need much smaller amounts than we do.

A couple of practical notes: the adult blends above (Primal Queen especially, since it’s built around women’s reproductive organs) are formulated for adults, not children. For kids, the gentle, doable route is a sprinkle of Pluck in food they already eat, or a small scoop of a flavored organ protein blended into a smoothie, starting with a tiny amount and going from there, with your pediatrician in the loop.

So what would I actually do?

All the products I’ve recommended in this article are great options. If you want simple and done-for-you to help you get your feet wet with organ supplements: Primal Queen if you’re a woman focused on hormones and energy, or MK Supplements.

If you want to target something specific, and you want a really powerful and robust option, Heart & Soil lets you build exactly that, as long as you don’t mind the extra capsules. (Tip: Sometimes I simply wouldn’t take the full dose of 6 capsules. I’d take 3 or 4 instead, and that worked well for me on the days I just didn’t feel like taking 6 or more at a time.)

If pills just aren’t going to happen, or you’re doing this for the whole family: Pluck in your regular cooking, plus a flavored organ protein powder for smoothies. That’s the most realistic version for real life with kids.

Whatever you pick, start low, take it with food, and be consistent. 💛

The Baby Industry Wants You to Overbuy.

Here’s the truth: Most baby registry lists are bloated on purpose. They're designed to sell you more stuff… not help you figure out what you actually need. You end up with 5 kinds of swaddles, 4 types of bottles, and a house full of gear you’ll barely use.

That’s why I created the Crunchy Baby Registry Bundle: an intentional, no-fluff approach that helps you confidently build a registry that fits your life (not a company's sales goals) and prepare for your baby with intention.
