If you’re an expecting mama, you’ve probably already heard about the many benefits of red raspberry leaf tea (RRLT).
If you haven’t, well today is your day because I’m going to share with you five benefits of drinking this super affordable vitamin-packed, nutrient-dense herbal tea!
I discovered this tea early on when I was pregnant and have had it in my pantry ever since. It is super affordable and if you enjoy the herbal taste of green tea, then you’re going to enjoy RRLT.
Note: It is important that you get red raspberry leaf tea and NOT regular raspberry tea.
When I asked my midwife how much red raspberry leaf tea I should be drinking, she advised me to drink 1-3 cups daily. Some mamas drink 1 cup per day per trimester, ie: 2 cups per day in the 2nd trimester.
You can start with 1 cup daily and see how your body reacts. Make sure you check with your own prenatal care provider before you start drinking it!
For an optimal pregnancy and birth, start drinking this tea like yesterday.
1) It’s full of essential vitamins and nutrients
Red raspberry leaf tea is rich in immune-boosting vitamin C, leg-cramp-blasting potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium, and so much more. All of these are crucial for you and for your growing baby.
2) Can reduce the need for interventions during childbirth — and it shortens labor
If you are planning to have a natural birth, drink RRLT! Just like eating dates during pregnancy can have a positive impact on childbirth, so can drinking red raspberry leaf tea! Through this study, it was found that RRLT may contribute to women birthing “on time” rather than pre or post-term (premature or “late”).
The study also unexpectedly found that women who ingested red raspberry leaf tea during pregnancy have a lower chance of needing medical intervention during childbirth. It has also been found that it may decrease the likelihood of a preterm birth and post-term birth.
This powerful uterine tonic also strengthens the walls of the uterus, making contractions more effective, thus shortening labor.
3) RRLT increases milk supply
RRLT is very rich in iron and other minerals and has been reported by many breastfeeding and pumping moms as a galactagogue. Hurray for milky boobs!

4) It tones the uterus and reduces postpartum bleeding
Red raspberry leaf tea is rich in tannins which can be used to address bleeding. Tannins are an astringent by nature, and can help tone the uterus after birth. RRLT is said to cause the uterus to contract more efficiently.
Postpartum, this means that your uterus will shrink back to its pre-preggo size a lot faster and the bleeding will stop sooner (and you can ditch the Depends)!
It also has a relaxing effect on your digestive organs so if you suffer from constipation, drink some RRLT.
5) It’s packed with anti-inflammatory compounds
The benefits of red raspberry leaf tea during pregnancy also include pain relief for both pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD)!
Relaxin hormone is responsible for loosening your ligaments and joints during pregnancy.
Both (PGP) and (SPD), which this change can trigger, are responsible for causing inflammation and pain to various degrees of severity.
If you suffer from PGP or SPD, ditch that sugary glass of orange juice at breakfast, and grab yourself a cup of red raspberry leaf tea. Red raspberry leaves are high in tannins which help reduce inflammation.
Since many pregnant mamas suffer from pelvic pain, I figured I should share with you 3 other inflammation-blasting things you need to make part of your pregnancy arsenal.

I drank this during pregnancy. I still needed some intervention but I like to think it helped overall. I like that it increases milk supply.

I absolutely love tea but when I was pregnant I hardly drank any. I had no idea that it had so many benefits, especially while pregnant. I would have tried anything to get out of those giant pregnancy diapers sooner! haha
I’m personally a fan of black tea and my son is 4 now but I’m sure with all those amazing vitamins and nutritional benefits it’s still has a ton of value after pregnancy as well.
Lifeofababe says
LOL @ giant pregnancy diapers! Yes this tea is great and is still full of body-loving vitamins and nutrients after pregnancy 🙂
Thanks so much for reading xx
