If you’re in the teething stage with your little one, this one’s for you. Teething can be such a tough season—sleepless nights, endless drool, cranky moods, and that constant need to chew everything in sight. And while teething toys can help, sometimes your baby just wants something satisfying to munch on. That’s where these homemade DIY natural teething crackers come in.
These are one of my favorite go-to recipes during the teething months. They’re made with just three wholesome, real-food ingredients—nothing processed, nothing sketchy. Just simple, nourishing goodness you can feel good about giving to your baby.
Whether you’re doing baby-led weaning or just looking for a healthier alternative to store-bought teething biscuits, this recipe is such an easy win. It takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish, and you probably already have all the ingredients on hand.
Why Make Your Own Teething Crackers?
There are plenty of teething crackers and biscuits on the market, but most of them contain preservatives, added sugar, natural flavors, or ingredients you’d never use at home. Some are even so hard that they pose a choking hazard—or they crumble into a million pieces on the first bite (you know the ones!).
By making your own, you have full control over what goes into your baby’s food. You can choose organic oats, use a clean applesauce (or mash up a ripe banana), and skip all the unnecessary additives. These crackers are:
- Gluten-free (as long as your oats are certified GF)
- Dairy-free
- Refined sugar-free
- And totally customizable for your baby’s preferences!

How to Make Homemade Teething Crackers
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil (unrefined or refined; no preference)
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
(or mashed banana for a sweeter flavor) - 2 cups rolled oats (gluten-free if needed)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
2. Blend the oats in a high-speed blender or food processor until they become a fine powder. This will be your oat flour.

3. In a medium bowl, mix the oat flour, applesauce (or mashed banana), and coconut oil until a dough forms. The dough should be soft but not too sticky—easy to handle with your hands.

4. Shape the crackers: Scoop out about a 1-inch ball of dough and press it gently between your palms until it forms a rectangle or oval shape, around ¼ inch thick. You can round the edges with your fingers. These don’t have to be perfect—think rustic and handmade!

5. Place each cracker on the stainless steel baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart. You do not need to use parchment paper unless you prefer to.

6. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip each cracker and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until lightly golden on both sides.

7. Let cool completely before offering to your baby. The crackers will firm up more as they cool.
Tips & Variations:
- Banana instead of applesauce? Absolutely! A ripe banana gives a sweeter, fruitier taste that many babies love.
- Want to add a little nutrition boost? Sprinkle in some ground flaxseed, chia seeds, or a pinch of cinnamon (if your baby has already been introduced to them).
- For older babies or toddlers, you can cut the crackers into fun shapes using mini cookie cutters before baking.
- These can be stored in an airtight container for a few days at room temperature, or kept in the fridge for up to a week. You can also freeze extras and reheat them briefly before serving.
- Always supervise your baby while eating and check for texture. Every baby is different—some may do better with a slightly softer bake, others may prefer a firmer cracker to really gnaw on.
Great for Baby-Led Weaning & On-the-Go Snacking
These teething crackers are especially helpful if you’re doing baby-led weaning. They’re easy to hold, mess-free, and help promote oral motor skills. They also double as a quick snack when you’re out running errands or need a distraction during a diaper change (we’ve all been there!).
I always kept a small stash in my diaper bag and a few in the freezer at home. They’re a lifesaver on those extra drooly days when baby just needs something to bite down on.
Teething might not be fun, but it doesn’t have to be miserable. Simple recipes like this can make such a difference for your baby—and for you. I hope your little one loves these natural teething crackers as much as mine did!
