As a natural mama, you already know the struggle around birthdays and holidays. Your friends and family love to spoil your kids, but you don’t want a ton of clutter to pile up, and you want gifts for your kids that are safe, thoughtful, and aligned with your values.
You’ve probably tried giving them lists of what to avoid, or what brands to shop, but it’s still hard for most people (aka normies) to understand what you mean by “plastic-free, screen-free, fragrance-free, dye-free, low-stimulation, etc.”. Most don’t totally get it and are still buying whatever’s cute and popular at the big-box store, as most people do. So you end up with a lot of unwanted items and the dilemma of knowing what to do with them.
Though they’re gifted with love, a lot of the times we get unwanted plastic toys with mystery materials, heavily fragranced toys or bath sets, loud light-up gadgets, and clothes sprayed with chemicals you would never voluntarily put near your child. Every year you cross your fingers and hope people follow your preference list… but it’s hard for them, and they rarely do.
That’s why I finally stopped giving long lists of what to avoid and started creating an Amazon Gift List for birthdays and holidays like Christmas and Easter. And I will never not create one while my kids are still little…
Why Amazon Gift Lists are Such a Game-Changer
Creating a gift list for your kids is honestly a win-win for you AND your gift-givers.
First, you can stop hinting and hoping that people will understand your preferences. A curated gift list lets you clearly share the brands and products you trust and are open to, which means you can finally avoid the awkward “Thanks so much” moment as you grin awkwardly, knowing this item will be returned or regifted.
And, for your friends and family? They feel helpful instead of confused, and you get gifts that genuinely support your low-tox lifestyle.
And, most importantly, your kids end up with things that feel aligned with your values. Not a drum set, another tablet device, or some mystery slime that is fluorescent green and ends up all over your carpet or in your child’s hair. IYKYK!
It Also Solves a Gifting Pain Point
Your standards are high because your kids deserve safe materials, clean ingredients, and toys that won’t overstimulate or off-gas in the playroom. But most people don’t shop this way… and that disconnect creates stress.
Creating a Gift List bridges that gap by letting you gently guide your loved ones toward the items you genuinely want for your kids, without ever sounding picky or demanding.
How to Create an Amazon Holiday or Gift List
1. First, create your Amazon Gift List. You’ll be asked to select an occasion, provide your first and last name, and give the name a list. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy! You could go with “Maddie’s Christmas Wish List”, “Kids Wish List”, or something similar.
2. Next, decide if you want the registry to be private or searchable. This is totally up to you! I prefer to keep mine private and only share them with friends and family who ask what my kids would like to receive.
3. Next, add items to your registry! You can add things from the product pages on Amazon by clicking the button that says “Add to Registry & Gifting” and selecting the name of the list you are working on.
4. You can indicate that you want multiples and add helpful notes to each product, too! I also love the “Most Wanted” option, which lets you indicate that an item is something your little one(s) really wants.
5. Share the list when someone you’re close to asks what to get the kids, and enjoy the relief of knowing the gifts will match your standards, won’t overwhelm your home with clutter, and won’t need to get returned!
Bonus tip: Keep your kids holiday or birthday gift list updated year-round so that your friends and family can always have something to refer to for birthdays and holidays! Update it seasonally, add wishlist items as you find them, and keep a running list of low-tox toys, books, clothes, and household favorites you love. The more you curate now, the smoother every holiday becomes.
