Finding non-toxic baby products is much easier when you know where to shop. The retailers below carry many of the safe, well-vetted brands I recommend, from cribs and car seats to feeding and bath essentials. Instead of sifting through endless product pages or worrying about greenwashing, you can start with stores that already stock products that use cleaner materials and have safer standards.

Best for Non-Toxic Baby Gear
Albee Baby
Albee Baby was one of the first stores I came across when I began researching strollers, car seats, and cribs. It’s been around since the 1930s and has built a reputation for carrying nearly every major baby brand imaginable. While not everything on their site is non-toxic, I love that their wide selection makes it easy to compare.
If you’re the kind of parent who likes to weigh options and research specs, Albee Baby is a great place to start. They run lots of great sales, carry exclusive colors and models, and often stock higher-end brands like Clek, Nuna, and Silver Cross that naturally lean toward safer materials and cleaner finishes. You’ll find a lot of what you’re looking for at Albee Baby.
Tips:
- Focus your spending on bigger baby gear items, like cribs, car seats, strollers, and mattress.
- Their baby registry completion discount goes as high as 20% (woot woot).
- Always check their sales and discount code offerings. If you’re a first responder, you may be eligible for a special discount.
They also have a generous loyalty program, and my readers love shopping with Albee Baby because of this.
Nordstrom
Nordstrom is a favorite! This of course isn’t typically a baby store, but I love that they carry a curated mix of premium baby gear and apparel. It’s also one of the few places you can see and touch higher-quality nursery items in person, which helps when you’re evaluating materials and finishes. I often browse their baby products just to check things out in person!
They also often stock brands that use organic cotton, are free of flame retardants, or habe safer finishes, and I’ve found that shopping their sales is a smart way to get better quality for less. Plus, their return policy is generous (but not quite as generous as it used to be — IYKYK), which is a big plus for new parents figuring out what works.
Tips:
- Browse in person to feel fabrics and inspect finishes.
- Shop brands like Pehr, Nuna, Stokke, UPPAbaby, and Bugaboo.
Pottery Barn Kids
Pottery Barn Kids is another strong contender when it comes to safer nursery furniture and decor. Their pieces are built to last and often made with solid wood, water-based finishes, and GREENGUARD certifications.
They’ve also made strides in offering organic crib mattresses, organic bedding, and rugs without harmful flame retardants. For parents who want a polished nursery look and cleaner materials, with a middle-range price tag, this is a great place to shop.
Tips:
- Verify, verify, verify their certifications and details for each piece. Some of their items claim to be GOTS-certified online, but arrive without a certification tag.
- Shop sales; Pottery Barn Kids runs seasonal promotions that make higher-end pieces more affordable.
Stores Where Everything Is Already Vetted
If you only want to shop where every product is already vetted for safety, this is your list. These retailers set the bar high for non-toxic standards, from organic fabrics to zero-VOC finishes, so you can shop confidently without having to second-guess every purchase.
Bella Luna Toys
Bella Luna Toys is pure magic for natural play. If you want to create a toy collection that’s free from plastic, dyes, and harsh finishes, this is where to go. They carry some of the best brands in the Waldorf/Montessori/crunchy space that are sustainably made, thoughtfully designed, and some built to last for generations. You’ll find brands like Grimm’s, HABA, Sarah’s Silks, and more.
I love that Bella Luna emphasizes play that nurtures imagination and sensory development, and because their toys are crafted from natural materials, they’re naturally safer for your baby to explore.
Tips:
- Choose from their own brand of wooden toys or shop other vetted toy brands.
- Keep playtime simple and full of imagination with the amazing toys they sell!
Simple Steps Market
While newer to the space, Simple Steps Market is one of the few retailers I can wholeheartedly recommend for non-toxic shopping, because that’s their entire mission. They only carry expert vetted baby essentials that meet higher safety and material standards. It’s such a breath of fresh air to browse their site without worrying about hidden chemicals or greenwashing.
Their team does the hard work of researching and verifying products, so you can trust that you’re looking at genuinely safer options. What I love most is how they prioritize giving you the best selection possible — from big brands like Bobbie, Kudos, and Mushie to small, mom-run businesses creating organic baby essentials you might never have discovered otherwise.
Tips:
- Save 10% on your entire order with code GENTLENURSERY.
- Set up your favorite products on subscription so you don’t have to worry about running out of diaper cream
- Create a baby registry and add your favorite items.
- Want to save time? Try one of their curated bundles (like the New Parent Essentials or Diapering Bundle) for an easy, ready-to-go non-toxic setup.
Gentle Nursery
Gentle Nursery Shop is my own curated collection of non-toxic products, all carefully chosen to help parents find safer options without the overwhelm. I created it because I wanted a single place to curate truly clean products for pregnancy, babies, and beyond.
You’ll find items that meet my personal criteria for safety and quality: organic fabrics, solid wood furniture, non-toxic finishes, and products that support your baby’s health and your peace of mind. My goal is to make non-toxic living accessible and practical for every family.
Tips:
- Use the shop as a resource for trusted, research-backed items.
- Explore new additions regularly! I’m always adding new products and great finds.
The Biggest Baby Retailers (With a Huge Selection)
When you want options (and lots of them), these retailers have the largest variety of baby gear and essentials. They’re ideal for comparing brands, building your registry, or finding the best pricing on trusted non-toxic items.
Amazon
I’m definitely an Amazon Prime mom and I love shopping with Amazon. Did you know that there are over 2 million third-party sellers on Amazon, with the majority of them being small businesses? Plus, between the convenience of shopping on Amazon, the speed of delivery, and the endless product selection, shopping on Amazon can make #momlife easier, especially when you know what to look for. There are truly great non-toxic brands on Amazon, especially in the baby space!
You’ll find everything from Earth Mama, Carina Organics, and Honest Baby Clothing to baby gear brands like Maxi-Cosi and UPPAbaby. So, when it comes to product selection, Amazon cannot truly be beat.
For this reason, I have always recommended Amazon as the #1 baby registry site, and personally used Amazon to keep my baby essentials on subscribe and save, check product reviews, and get those last-minute non-toxic baby products delivered straight to my door. You can find most of the crunchy baby products you are looking for on Amazon.
Tips:
- Shop trusted brands directly on Amazon. Before adding to cart, double check the “Sold By” status: buy from the brand directly or from Amazon itself whenever possible. Avoid wholesalers and resellers.
- Save time by shopping for vetted products directly from my Amazon store.
- Create your baby registry on Amazon and take advantage of some of the best registry perks available on the internet.
Babylist
Babylist’s baby registry is a highly popular baby registry site because it lets you collect items from multiple stores all in one place (called a “universal registry”). That flexibility is a dream if you’re trying to create a non-toxic registry without being tied to a single retailer. You can add products from Albee Baby, Amazon, Pottery Barn Kids, even Etsy, or anywhere else you love — and your friends and family can easily shop your preferences.
In addition to being a great option for creating your baby registry, Babylist also sells a ton of baby products directly through their site. You can find everything from play mats and baby clothing sets to big baby gear items like strollers and car seats.
Want to take some of the guesswork out of shopping for baby essentials like diapers, glass baby bottles, pacifiers, or swaddles? It can be hard to figure out which brand will work for your baby, so you can order one of their Try-It-Kits, which is like a big sampler pack of baby products. I love that!
Tips:
- Use the built-in search to find safer options or import them directly from other stores.
- Double-check product specs on brand websites before finalizing your list. Cross reference with our baby gear checklists and make sure you’re shopping from the brands and products that we’ve vetted.
Modern Nursery
Modern Nursery is another great retailer that balances style and accessibility with safer materials. They have a commitment to sourcing cleaner products, and that makes this a great place to browse for your nursery and baby essentials.
I appreciate that their site is organized and easy to navigate, so you can quickly find what you need without endless scrolling. I wouldn’t say that all of the brands they carry are truly non-toxic, but if you are looking for lower-tox options, this is an amazing resource!
Tips:
- Look for products with GOTS or GREENGUARD certification.
- Read material details carefully, especially for mixed-material items.
Target
Target is the every-mom’s store, and it deserves a spot on this list. While not everything at Target is non-toxic, they’ve come a long way in carrying safer brands and organic basics. Walk into a Target store today and you’ll find great options like Lovevery play kits, silicone bath toys, organic baby formula, and so much more. Target for the win!
Tips:
- Use filters for “organic cotton,” “non-toxic,” or “GREENGUARD.”
- Get to know the clean brands that your local Target carries and use the Drive-Up feature or order online if going out with your baby feels overwhelming sometimes. (Or even if it doesn’t; I do both of these regularly myself!)
Independent Stores With Safer Baby Essentials
Sometimes the best finds come from smaller shops that curate each item with care. These stores blend style with substance, offering unique baby products and boutique-quality gear from brands that value safer, cleaner materials.
EasyTot
When I discovered EasyTot during my baby-gear research, I loved that it frames itself as a one-stop destination for premium baby and toddler gear, clothes, toys and decor. What drew me in was the visible emphasis on materials, and the brands they carry. You’ll find Charlie Crane, EZPZ, MakeMake Organics, and NewNative.
At the same time, it’s not exclusively a non-toxic baby-store niche (i.e., they carry broad gear categories), so as with any retailer you’ll want to apply your non-toxic criteria to each item you pick. But once you’ve defined your criteria (organic textiles, GREENGUARD or OEKO-TEX, etc.), you can filter, compare, and pick from a lot of relevant items in one place.
Tips:
Want to Save This Post?
- Search the site using the brand search or material filters (for example “bamboo,” “organic cotton,” “muslin”) to find higher-quality textiles.
Maisonette
Maisonette feels like the stylish mom’s dream… it’s beautifully curated, easy to navigate, and full of boutique baby brands that blend aesthetics with quality. Many of the brands they carry use solid wood, organic textiles, or sustainably sourced materials, and you can often find organic bedding and decor that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Maisonette’s price point is a bit higher, but the quality and transparency usually match. You’ll find everything from baby and kids clothing to nursery essentials as well as toys to baby gear. Definitely worth a look if you are focused on higher-end products.
Tips:
- Always verify materials and finishes, even when an item looks eco-friendly.
Pish Posh Baby
Pish Posh Baby is one of those hidden gems that parents often discover after spending hours researching strollers and car seats. It’s a specialty retailer focused entirely on baby gear, strollers, car seats, nursery furniture, and accessories, and what makes it stand out is how knowledgeable their team is. They’re experts in the gear world, which makes it much easier to compare models, features, and safety credentials without feeling overwhelmed.
I love that they carry a range of premium brands known for better materials and stricter safety standards, including many GREENGUARD Gold–certified cribs and baby gear lines free from harmful flame retardants.
What I really appreciate about Pish Posh Baby is their customer service. Their team genuinely wants to help you choose the right product for your family, and they’re transparent about safety features and certifications. They even have a “Gear Concierge” service where you can talk to an expert before making a purchase — perfect if you’re deciding between multiple strollers or looking for products made without toxic finishes or materials. It feels like shopping with a trusted friend who knows the ins and outs of every brand.
Tips:
- Check product listings for certifications.
- Watch for holiday sale events, where you can often score premium, safer gear at a discount.
Where to Buy Discounted Baby Gear
Want to save money without lowering your standards? These retailers specialize in high-quality, inspected gear at lower prices. From open-box baby strollers to nearly-new nursery furniture, they make safer shopping more affordable.
GoodBuy Gear
When someone returns an open-box or even gently used baby product, it can either end up in the landfill. But GoodBuy Gear is a great one-stop solution for this massive problem: they sell inspected, quality-checked open-box and gently pre-owned baby gear (many of which come from major brands) with a strict focus on safety and value.
What I loved: they provide clear standards, safety-checks, and they make it easier for parents on a budget to access good gear without compromising on core quality.
Tips:
- Always inspect pre-owned items for wear, missing parts or safety concerns.
- Use for gear that doesn’t require brand-new status (e.g., travel gear, accessory strollers).
- Make sure you look up any recalls or expiry dates for baby gear, especially car seats or mattresses.
REBEL
When I discovered REBEL (formerly Rebelstork), I felt like I’d unlocked a smart shopping secret. Their mission of giving parents access to premium baby gear at huge discounts resonated deeply, especially when you’re in “crunchy mom” mode and want high-quality gear without breaking the bank.
REBEL sells open-box and overstock items from top brands (so gear is never “used,” but boxes may be opened or returned). That means you can find strollers, car seats, and home-essentials at up to 50 % off.
I like that with REBEL you could score a premium item at a fraction of the retail cost while also feeling good about shopping smart. On the flip side, open-box puts items into the “secondhand” category in my mind, which means that you’ll want to inspect items thoroughly when they arrive.
Tips:
- Look at the condition and make sure “open box never used” has been verified.
- Prioritise items you really want, because return windows may be limited.
- Compare the same item new vs open box; if you can afford a bit more, check new-condition for max guarantees.
- Use REBEL for high-ticket items rather than lower cost items, such as toys.
The Best Department Stores for Clean Baby Brands
Classic department stores are worth another look! Many now carry baby furniture and gear, organic bedding, and safer brands you’ll recognize. These stores are great if you want to see and feel products in person before buying.
Bloomingdale’s
Bloomingdale’s might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about shopping for your baby, but it’s quietly become one of my favorite department stores for finding safer, higher-quality baby gear. They carry a great mix of premium brands: everything from nursery furniture and baby gear to clothing and toys, and often feature items made with organic fabrics, and GREENGUARD-certified materials.
What I love about Bloomingdale’s is the in-store experience: you can see, touch, and feel the products before buying, and their baby section is beautifully curated. It’s perfect for parents who value both style and materials; the kind of place where you can find a gorgeous, solid-wood crib or an organic layette without wondering if you’re sacrificing safety for aesthetics. They also have a great selection of maternity clothes and some nice perks on their baby registry!
Tips:
- Look for the baby brands that we recommend, and score a deal during one of their sales or take advantage of rewards and store card discounts.
- Take advantage of in-store displays to check finishes, materials, and sturdiness.
Dillard’s
Dillard’s isn’t usually the first place people think of for baby shopping, but I’ve actually found it to be a surprisingly good resource, especially when you know what to look for. As a department store, Dillard’s carries everything from baby clothes and gear to bedding and nursery decor, and if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find a number of safer, more natural options mixed in. They carry brands like Naturepedic, Nuna, BabyBjorn, and Lambs & Ivy. I’ve found beautiful organic cotton bedding and mattress protectors, bamboo sheets, and even natural-fabric baby blankets that meet higher safety standards.
Of course, not everything they carry is non-toxic, so you’ll need to check product details carefully. But with a few smart filters and brand awareness, Dillard’s can easily be part of your safer shopping rotation.
Tips:
- Look for the baby brands we recommend in our gear guides.
- Use search terms such as “organic cotton,” “GREENGUARD,” or “OEKO-TEX” when browsing.
- For big-ticket items like car seats or cribs, always confirm flame-retardant and finish details before purchasing.
Quince
Quince has become one of my go-to places for high-quality, natural materials at truly reasonable prices. While they aren’t exclusively a baby retailer, their baby and kids line includes some beautiful pieces made with organic cotton or cashmere, all produced with sustainability and transparency in mind.
I love that Quince’s entire brand philosophy centers around offering premium materials without the traditional retail markups, which means you can get soft, breathable, toxin-free baby clothes and bedding that feel luxurious without the price tag of boutique brands.
Their baby line is still growing, but what’s available is lovely: think organic cotton onesies, muslin swaddles, baby quilts, and matching pajama sets. Everything I’ve ordered has come in simple, plastic-free packaging, which feels like such a breath of fresh air.
Quince is also a great place to shop for yourself during pregnancy or postpartum; their organic cotton loungewear and washable silk pieces are free from harsh dyes and feel amazing on sensitive skin.
Tips:
- Prioritize their organic cotton and cashmere baby items for the safest materials.
- Explore their home section for GOTS-certified bedding and OEKO-TEX-certified textiles that work beautifully in a nursery.
- Keep an eye out for new baby product drops; their inventory expands seasonally.
- If you’re shopping for yourself, look for organic cotton maternity pieces or washable silk loungewear that are gentle on skin.
Other Retailers Worth a Look
These retailers might not fit neatly into a single category, but they’re still worth checking out for non-toxic finds. From modern furniture to affordable basics, they round out your non-toxic shopping options beautifully.
buybuy BABY
buybuy BABY has long been a go-to destination for parents building their baby registry, and while the company has gone through changes (eg they closed all stores and are now owned by Bed, Bath, and Beyond), it still offers a mix of low-tox and traditional products from brands like Naturepedic, Chicco, Maxi-Cosi, and Burt’s Bees Baby.
They definitely don’t have as wide a selection of low-tox products as I’d like to see, but I wouldn’t rule them out. Because they’re a big box retailer, you might snag a good deal!
Tips:
- As long as you know what you’re shopping for, you can navigate past the traditional items that they carry.
Crate & Kids
When it comes to furniture, Crate & Barrel Kids is one of my favorite stops. Their pieces are well-made, stylish, and often more transparent about materials and finishes than lower-end furniture retailers. Many of their cribs and dressers are solid wood and feature low-VOC finishes, which is exactly what you want in a nursery.
Tips:
- Look for GREENGUARD Gold certification on cribs and mattresses.
- For textiles, stick with organic cotton or linen options.
Walmart
Walmart isn’t the first place you might think of for non-toxic products, but it can be part of a balanced approach, especially when you’re sticking to a budget. They now carry more organic baby brands and Greenguard-certified items than ever before.
If you’re mindful about what you buy and take time to read specs, Walmart can be great for basics and everyday gear. Think: organic bedding, clean formula, and simple wooden toys.
Tips:
- Search “organic” or “non-toxic” in product filters.
- If you’re unsure, scour the reviews for chemical odor mentions.
- Use Walmart for replaceable or budget-friendly items, not investment pieces.
West Elm
West Elm does have several nursery-friendly furniture and mattress options with stronger material transparency, and that counts. For example, they offer furniture pieces finished with water-based stains or child-safe finishes and carry a GREENGUARD furniture certification.
What makes West Elm appealing is that you can get nursery furniture that doesn’t necessarily look like “children’s furniture” but still carries safety credentials, so the aesthetic you love doesn’t have to compromise the material quality. Of course, because they are a broader home-furnishings brand, you’ll still need to check each item carefully; not everything is automatically best-in-class for “non-toxic baby gear.” I would shop West Elm for things like cribs, changing dressers, or accent furniture in the nursery when style + safer materials were part of the priority.
Tips:
- Check for GREENGUARD Gold certification (especially on furniture) to ensure low-emitting materials.
- Look for water-based paints or stains and child-safe coatings on wood furniture.
- Because inventory and shipping can vary for larger furniture, order early.
